Default thinking about startng.

i've been playing wow for awhile and i've gotten incredibly bored of it. I was wondering in GW is the PvP a lot of skill and tactics... like laying down traps in certain places and positioning yourself so you can get the jump on your opponent, and are the instance dungeons in eye of the north any good, and how long would it take me to reach that part of the game?

I've never played PvP, somebody else will help you with that.
But Instance Dungeons are pretty good and you can reach them with a minimum of playtime (although to reach some of the better ones, you may need to play a bit more).

You can find a load of information about the game at one of the two wikis.

The instances in GW:EN, in my experience, have been largely tech demos, showcasing what is possible in the Guild Wars engine. And to that extant, I think the engine is definitely capable of supporting some amazing, challenging dungeons that people will enjoy.
As it is, I personally didn't feel the dungeons have gotten there yet.

They're interesting, but I wouldn't consider them to be a must-buy point.

As for the PvP, it really depends what level of competitiveness you're at, what formats you're looking for, and who you ask.

Some people swear by formats like Guild vs Guild, Heroes Ascent, and Alliance Battles (not all at the same time, generally), while others consider them to be mindless, either inherently, or due to the current metagame state.

If you ask around, you might find someone with unused buddy/trial keys, or, alternatively, you could shop around and find older Guild Wars chapters at a discount. There's also a Guild Wars Trilogy Trial DvD for sale from some outlets, http://www.guildwars.com/support/gam...ilogytrial.php , you could look at if you're willing to pay a little.

Occasionally, there's a sale that'll be mentioned on the forums where you can get Prophecies or Factions at a mere $20 USD, discounted from it's online store price by $30.
Though you won't have access to all the added skills, you can get a general feel for the game's mechanics, and the PvP formats, with either game, without having to commit to a full price purchase, or limited features/playtime.
